I'm sure they are both in their 50's, went on holiday and gambled away a lot of it.
The council were refusing to pay their rent as they could not account for 2 withdrawls - one for £12,000 and another for £20,000 withdrawn from a bank account.
The man said his wife has a gambling addiction and she blew the lot on fruit machines.
He also said that they went out a lot and "it's not cheap going to the boozer".
:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
He said it was almost £3 for a pint so that was almost £6 a round then by the time they both bought fags etc the night to the local could get quite expensive.
It's a real shame for them........
Reading this, I am getting a little faith back in those that govern us and 'make the rules'.
The Govt. are doing all sorts of stuff like this at the moment....and it's a shock to those who got used to scamming the system for years.
My SIL is on the wrong side of the benefits investigator at the mo...her borough is running a pilot scheme to really weed out the fraud that isn't 'seen' by the claimants as 'fraud'...just topping up a 'low income' is how they see it.
About time too

Good grief - all that money blown on gambling and the pub! And how anyone can owe £12,000 in rent arrears is beyond me. (Surely some of that might have been council tax or something?)
Reminds me of a couple I know who blew £47,000- she went to the bingo every night and he spend his share on booze and fags.
I have no sympathy.
I'd love to have a win like that - I could pay off my mortgage, build a 2 storey extension on the house and have enough left to take the kids to Disneyland lol. They were on GMTV this morning and its 47k they can't account for, thats why the council aren't helping out. They need to show reciepts for purchases. They have their caravan on sale now but think they will only get 7K for it.You may walk and you may run

I listened to the podcast yesterday. This couple are financially illiterate. No one questioned why someone £12,000 in debt was buying scratch cards for a start. It seems pretty much what poppyolivia said. They've spent most of the money but can't account for £40k ish. Until they can satisfy HB that they haven't hidden it somewhere or it's not in what counts as a "capital asset" (IIRC) then HB won't accept their claim.
What they should have done is pay off the arrears (£12k), paid the rent up front for, say, 3 months, £1k, spend maybe £500 on some physio for his shoulder so he can get back to work and put the rest on deposit. Say £86k at 6% gives them £100 a week gross. He was talking about going back to work at £300 a week, so once his shoulder is sorted they'd be OK (grossing £400 per week plus her benefits). What's the problem?A house isn't a home without a cat.
Those are my principles. If you don't like them, I have others.
I have writer's block - I can't begin to tell you about it.
You told me again you preferred handsome men but for me you would make an exception.
