Wooohooo, made my first overpayment today :j :j :j What a great feeling ay! I did make a £50 overpayment last month but that was on the day I decided to join the MFW'ers and was more in the way of a promise to myself rather than an 'official' overpayment as at that point I hadn't worked out how much I could afford to overpay by. So... today sent £300 :D

Just off to update my sig and PM bellsbells with my update

    Regards all

Doesn't it give a warm glow inside knowing that you are depriving your mortgage lender of some compound interest? :rotfl:

Doh! Just rang up for a balance and it seems that I've paid £50 of this months overpayments into the interest only account. They said they could transfer it to the repayment part but I just thought what the heck, it's all got to be paid anyway. Mind you, it was nice to see the balance come down a bit - not a regular occurence on an interest only account :D

Hi MrsBinsky, it certainly does give a warm feeling, better in our purses than their hot little hands ay. How you doing with your own number crunching?

Spreadsheets are coming along nicely, I reckon we can get the balance down to approx £93k by the time our fixed rate deal comes to an end in July 2011 (we started with a £125k mortgage in July 2006). Next job is to work out how much interest this will save us (looking forward to doing that spreadsheet!)

Have you fessed up to any of your pals re your mortgage quest? I mentioned it to someone the other day and she looked at me like I'm mad, shrugged her shoulders and said "oh, we'll be in debt for the rest of our lives". Her mortgage is less than mine and she earns more than me so...why? Just goes to show that the right state of mind is the most important thing when it comings to blitzing the mortgage.

    Hi MrsBinsky

Well done on the spreadsheets:j Yes, I've told a few of my friends what I'm doing and one of them has started the overpayment journey after looking at the MSE/MRW site and using the caluclators etc - she's worked out she can afford to be MF in 8 years rather than the 22 term she has left. So far, I haven't had anyone anyone look at me as if I have two heads but there is time yet lol

I told my parents about my MFW quest straight away - I knew they would approve anyway as this was something they themselves did 22 years ago (when their mortgage rate was 14% )- I guess OP'ing was probably an even more unusual thing to do back then. Actually, mam and dad fell into OP'ing by accident as the bank cocked up their mortgage and they were paying about £100 per month extra - it took them a few months to realise this and then when they did took the view that if they had been able to afford it then they would keep on doing so. They kept on doing this with the occassional lump sum thrown in until the became MF:D They have been on at me for years to OP mine and have encouraged many others to do it but to be honest I've never really been in the financial position to do it before now(although I know I could have at least done £10 per month:o ) Oh, well, at least I've thrown myself into it now :T :T

Just a quick update and a question of a techie MSE site nature that hopefully some of you good people will know the answer to

Update first: following my first OP last week I'm stilll feeling pleased with myself:j , however, I had not anticipated the antsy feeling I have due to not being able to do it again for a whole month:o I can see myself starting to make small payments during the month just to get that OP feeling, hmm, how does 99p per week sound :rotfl:

My question is: am I able to change the title of my thread as I feel it's no longer relevant as I have now actually started my MF journey (YAY again lol) I would like the content so far to be my diary so if it is possible and anyone can tell me how that would be great

    Regards

    Hi abouttimetoo,

Yes you should be able to do this - "log in" - doing this gives you an "edit" button for posts you own.

You now want to locate and edit your first post. If it's defaulted to "simple" editing, click to go advanced and in doing so, this exposes the thread title, which you can then alter and save...

    Hope this helps,
