Balloo, how are your plants doing now? Did they recover or did you start again with more seeds?

    Hi balloo,

Sorry to hear that your seedlings didn't survive. :(

Make sure that you harden off your new tomato plants (put them outside during the day to get them used to outside temperatures and the wind/rain etc) before you plant them outside permanently. If there is any sign of frost lift them in at night.

There are some good tips on hardening off plants here and here

Almost certain to be "damping off" it is a real problem in some species, the only real cure is plenty of fresh air, and always use Cheshunt Compound on the compost before you sow, again once they have germinated, and then after you transplant them. This will solve 99% of problems.

Try again, and if you really dont manage to grow tomatoes, grow something else like Lettuce or herbs.

One of my tomatoes plants (about an inch high) has a white looking fungus on it, is that normal?

Mine seem to be doing OK but my herbs seem to get the white fluffy looking mould over the compost and around the plants. Is this lack of fresh air or over watering causing some form of damp mould?
