    Hi Fleago,

I can see that you use the Thornit powder carefully and responsibly and it therefore helps your dogs keep his ears free of trouble. I think the trouble with a powder such as this is when people just tip a load in without checking for residue afterwards. You obviously take good care of your dog's ears by making sure you haven't overdone the powder as well as removing the hairs and residue too.

When we bought our first Pug we went to collect her from the breeder who tipped about half a teaspoonful into each ear and didn't tell us why she was doing this or if we needed to check the ears afterwards. Luckily she didn't have any trouble but I really think you need to know what you are doing if you use a product like this. As you can buy it from shops or off the net then you haven't got anyone necessarily explaining the best way to use it.

Yes, very good points you've made, Beachbeth. It's a useful tool if used properly but if a person didn't know what they were doing then it could certainly cause big problems with build up in the ears possibly leading to infection. When I was first told about it, the person telling me made sure to actually show me what to do as well as giving me clear instructions for the follow up.

Half a teaspoon in an ickle pug's ears? I'd never put that much in each of my gang's lugs, and they've got big floppy ones. :D As you say, it's important to know what you're doing when using it. :)

I was shocked when she did it, I must say! I just assumed that because she was an experienced breeder that she knew what she was doing, but it did seem an awful lot of powder going into an 8 week old Pug's ears!
