My HP scanner has died. And I am very annoyed. It was three year old and I had used it a total of about 20 times.

I have used HP scanners before and know that they can be quite robust. It cost about £75 and I can buy a new for about £38 but was wondering if there was anything I could try before I throw it away.

Now the power pack gets warm so that is ok. It does not make the warming up nosies when it has power.

I asked in my local computer shop and they said no idea. But then the person in from of my husband had damaged the hinges on there laptop and did not want to know about that either. So seems like they only want to deal with PC's everything else must a little bit beyond them.

And I am not going to replace it with a scanner/printer and copier thingy as I only bought my printer a few weeks ago.

And I do have a need for a scanner as I need to use to for something that a digital camera is no good for.

Any ideas of what I can try before I throw out the window :rotfl:

Many thank in advance.

Yours

Calley

Windows SP2 stops my scanner drivers from working, it's ok when I remove SP2, not that this info will help you but is there anything else that could be stopping your scanner from working if it is not damaged.

    Elvis,

Intersting I never thought software. I assumed it was hardware as I didn't get the whine when the power was turned on.

I am not aware of any other problems. The version of windows on the desktop has service pack two installed.

I will have to try on my laptop when the new hard drive arrives and get windows installed. As it is Xp but pre sp 2.

Thanks for that something to think about.

We had an IBM scanner that died after about 2 and a half years, well out of warrenty, but a letter to IBM got us a cheque for £100! Not bad considering the scanner only cost £60 :D

Not sure if HP will be as kind, but if you can't fix it a complaint might still get you a replacement
