Well, thank God I found this thread. I have the FILTHIEST cooker. I'd love to blame lodgers/renters/robbers but it was ME, all me!!

My cooker has a lid. It hides things. I wish the fairies would just come and clean the spills but they never do. Why is that?

Now, if someone could just point me to the place where I find the person/being who comes and paints the ovenmate on, leaves for a couple of hours and wipes off I'll be sorted.

    ps Cheese slice? eeeek!

i use ovenpride for all the inside bits(from wilkinsons). For the top of my cooker...i swear by my paintscraper thingy as recommended by kim and aggie(how clean is your house).Simply just gently attack the burnt on food and it eventually scrapes off.

Sounds like I'm not only one who pledges to clean the oven more regularly as soon as I've finished cleaning it - only to leave it until I'd be ashamed if anyone looked in? :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Is washing powder ok to use on the inside of the oven and if so would you warm the oven up a bit first or leave it cold?

As other peeps have said bio washing powder, works a treat

    good luck xx
  • tip for cleaning badly burnt pan and will probable work for cookers too - instead of wire wool, use the plastic lid of a milk container (or similar) and rub open end across the burnt patch - makes a good (free) scraper!!!

Can I just ask - what does stardrops look like? - I can't seem to find it in my local supermarket, but maybe I am looking in wrong section or for bottle rather than packet etc ...................

Stardrops is generally in a plastic bottle (flat on two sides) and the liquid is clear golden yellow. Occasionally you will come across it in a rounded glass bottle. White label, blue writing.
There is also a variation that is smokey white (includes ammonia) which is always in a glass bottle.

You will probably find it either on a lower or higher shelf, as its cheap and supermarkets want you to notice the pricey cleaners first!!

Edited to add - in my local Asda it's on the 2nd to bottom shelf next to the Flash liquid. HTH

It's not exactly old style, but I have used Fairy Power Spray on really filthy gross burnt-on hobs and it works a treat. You have spray it quite liberally and leave it to soak in a while, then scour it gently off. You might have to repeat it if you find only the top layer of stuff comes off (if it's really thick burnt on stuff) and I find kitchen roll useful to scoop/mop up the residue because otherwise the cloth needs rinsing for two minutes every wipe!
