Moving a meter?????
Hi
Ok so im a council tenant, recently moved into my house to find that in the 2 cupboard next to my kitchen sink is both my gas and electric meters to be specific it goes entrance to house/electric meter/sink/gas meter/washing machine.
Now the problem is we have just been given a dishwasher (which we have always wanted) and just realised our predicament. Would we somehow be able to have our meters moved our would it cost us a stupid amount of money? As our kitchen is square the only other option would be to have the dishwasher next to the cooker and have the tubes (or whatever it is) leading in front of my washer and making a hole in the front of my cupboard, which isnt ideal when we have a baby and a dog.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Sorry if I have posted this in the wrong place.

I know they put them in the most stupid places, I asked them to fit a prepay meter when we moved in and they said because of the size of a prepay meter they would move it outside, a month later i get a card through the door "we came to change your meter and you was out we will come again on so and so date" that date came and they never turned up and then when they did come another week later they changed my meter for wait for it ................... another credit meter, what the????
Gave up in the end but today a friend text me and said they had been given a nice dishwasher and would we like it, not thinking I said yes please then thought hang on a minute.0 -
think it depends on who the original "distibuter" was in your area (i.e before the days of being free to buy your gas and leccy off of anyone) as they will be doing the work on behalf of your supplier (or sub-contacting it to a 3rd party like siemens)
Some have a list of set charges. AFAIK, they will only move the meter - any rewiring is the customers responsibility (via an electrician)
I have a poll / discussion on Economy 7 / 10 off-peak usage (as a % or total) and ways to improve it but I'm not allowed to link to it so have a look on the gas/elec forum if you would like to vote or discuss.:cool:0 -
Usually moving a meter 6 inches tends to be free. The reason being that nothing gets changed in the process.
Any further and they have to perform further work, hence you get charged.
You need to approach your local Distributor if it's further than 6 inches. Less than 6 inches, contact your Supplier and see if they will do it FOC.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0 -
I have the same problem, i spoke to a friend who said he hassled the orig installer to do it free of charge as it was in such a stupid place and they did. might be lots of phone calls but hey, worth it if the do it for free, let me know how you get on!0
