I'm thinking about getting one of these clubcards and would like to setup the automatic Direct Debit option to pay the balance in full every month.
Is this an option on the initial form or do I have to send a letter to them. I've never really used a credit card so believe this would be a good one to start with (Im not intending to use the credit... just pay off in full every month and gain more points)

Have you got an application form or do you intend to do this online?
I'm pretty sure that forms will have a space for you to tick for D/D - not sure about online applications.
With most banks you can set up a D/D over the telephone but please be very careful in that your statement states that a D/D of £x.xx will be taken on such and such a date - if your first one does not have this on then it has not been set up so pay manually !!0 -
I was wondering if anyone went through the situation first hand and has signed up with them... online.
Was hoping it was simple to setup a "Pay in full" DD on application.0 -
You'll need to ring them to activate the card when it arrives, so that's the best time to set up the direct debit.I was wondering if anyone went through the situation first hand and has signed up with them... online.

If you set the statement date to 'yesterday' (ie phone on 12th/set statement date for 11th of the month), you'll give them plenty of time to set up the DD. However, you still need to follow the advice above and check your first statement (and your own online banking) to ensure the DD has been set up correctly.0 -
thanks for your help, I was thinkin about using it as a joint credit card, can two people get this credit card?
Thanks0 -
You can request an additional cardholder, yes.
Have you had a look around the Tesco Clubcard website?0 -

If the statement was priduced on the 11th for example, the dd will not take from that statement, say the date the money must reach was the 7th of next month, cos the statement was already produced.
It's an RBS thing, dunno if its the same for other credit cards with other groups.

(It's probably me but) I'm not sure what you're saying here Lisa?mrsmortenharket wrote: »If the statement was priduced on the 11th for example, the dd will not take from that statement, say the date the money must reach was the 7th of next month, cos the statement was already produced.

The point I was making was if you call to activate your card on the 12th April, then ask for an 11th of the month statement date. That way, it'll be a full 4 weeks until your first statement is produced on 11th May (and another 4 weeks until the DD is collected), and therefore they have a full 4 weeks to get the DD set up at their end, obtain your signature (if not done electronically by AUDDIS), and ensure the DDI is registered with your bank.
If they can't do this in time, then the message "your minimum payment will be collected from your nominated account on xx/xx/xx" will not appear on your statement.0 -
