Would this be considered smart?

Hi,
After 18 months out of work due to an accident at my last job i have finally landed a new job

This job is totally different to my last job so i just need some advice on what is considered smart work wear. I am due to start next monday but the person who is dealing with the vacancy is off on holiday until i start.

The job is working on their Websites and the company is in the TV broadcasting industry, so i will be based in an office. They did state smart but not too smart dress code.

Would a black smart plain jumper, black pin stripe trousers, and black shoes be ok?

Sorry its my first office type job, lol. :o

Are you a man or a woman?

If a man, I would go for a shirt at first, even if not with a tie. If a woman, a smart jumper should be fine.

    Good luck! x

I agree with dmg....a shirt with no tie and unbuttoned at the top button with trousers and nice clean shoes until you see what the other men are wearing. :)

    Congrats and good luck:T

IMO the "smart but not too smart" dress code would apply to you when you're doing the job...

I always think its better to look too smart than not smart enough..... I would wear a suit with shirt and tie for the any interview.

    Thanks,
I did wear my Hugo Boss suit to the interview but i think that will be too smart for their office.

So when you went for the interview, what were the other chaps wearing in the office? That should give you an idea of what is expected.

If you wore a suit to the interview and received the advice about "not too smart" perhaps that was a hint that the suit was indeed more than they would think was appropriate.

Wear a suit for good first impressions, but once you're at your desk undress to fit in with company's general style.
