Just wondered why they 'award' it to you then take it away again
why do they bother?
I get it (virtually) because ds1 gets DLA, but then they take it off again.
'because of income level'.
so...does this mean the silly scenario that if hubby earned less we would be better off.(my income of a part time job makes no difference to my CTC levels - yep more confusing info!) How daft!

TCO decide which elements of WTC and CTC you are entitled to according to the information you provide. They add the total of all those elements together and then use your household income to taper it down.
If you are on certain benefits tapering does not take place. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Well we provide them all with the correct info,

Is DLA one of the benefits they take into consideration? They know DS gets that

This gives details of those benefits which affect tapering of awards. I think receiving the higher CARE component of DLA also affects it. This is the level of DLA you have to be receiving to get the severe disability element. Hopefully subsoniccoyote will come on and clarify this for us.
Sarahsaver middle rate DLA means you will have been awarded the disability element but not the severe disability element. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

They dont give it to you then take it away. It is as Pam said, you are awarded the elements you qualify for - this is the case for everyone - and then the award is tapered down to your actual entitlement by taking your income in to consideration.
The only benefits which will avoid the tapering calculation are income support, income based job seekers allowance and pension credits (formerly minimum income guarantee, MIG).0 -
