Decking

After much deliberation i have decided to re-do my patio with decking, and am looking for a bit of advice from those 'in the know'.

- The do's and dont's when it comes to fitting it
- The best deals around on boards and joists.

The area is 310 x 280 approx.

Look forward to your replies!

There are discounts in B&Q just now & they have 'how to' guides on www.diy.com

Also www.screwfix.co.uk (owned by B&Q) have some .

We've just started looking & there are several timber merchants that do deals, but the advantage with B&Q or similar, you can choose the timber you want, if you're fussy & take back the stuff you oreder too much of!!

I assume you mean cm for those measurements, 8,68 m2. I think Wickes have some offers on the boards at the moment, don't know how cheap they are compared to others. I think decking is generally "ridiculously expensive" compared to other finishes, but then it does look good. Guess your best deal would be direct, if you can. Always use the right screws, you can get "decking" screws, otherwise get ones which won't rust, otherwise it'll look a bad job after a few months.
  • Thanks for your replies so far, will have a look at wickes and b&q :cheesy:
  • Not sure about the best place to buy it, but this decking section here is excellent, it should answer most of your questions- Decking

Just as a matter of interest. How do you know that it lasts forever.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

Ok, may have over-eggagerated. They gave us a 20 year guarantee and told us the life expectancy is 40 years. As i'll be dead in 40 years, technically it's forever ;)
  • Get your screws from Screwfix...they are a far far better bulk buy than B&Q .......and decking takes loads of screws !

Maybe get some prices from the " Big Shed " places and go to a timber merchants...the might do you a deal. ;)

    Good luck.

If you can increase it to 3.6m by 2.8m it will make life easier as you can just buy 3.6m decking boards and won't have to do many cuts.
