I hope you can help
I have bought two drives recently (both ebay, 1 UK seller the other HK)
Neither drive appears to be able to hold as much as I thought it would without creating corrupted files - I fear that I have been scammed, however I thought that I would check here first.
Drive 1 - 8GB
My Computer Says: 8,573,140,992 Bytes
Using HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool V2.1.8 I get the following results:
Serial 34CB-3060
8,573,140,992 Bytes total disk space
8,573,136,896 Bytes available on disk
4096 Bytes in each allocation unit
2,093,052 Bytes total allocation units on disk
2,093,051 Bytes available allocation units on disk
Am I correct in thinking that this is actuall a 2GB badged up as an 8GB
Drive 2 - 16GB
My Computer Says: 16,656,093,936 Bytes
Using HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool V2.1.8 I get the following results:
Serial A0C5-BE89
16,656,093,936 Bytes total disk space
16,656,031,744 Bytes available on disk
8192 Bytes in each allocation unit
2,033,028 Bytes total allocation units on disk
2,033,027 Bytes available allocation units on disk
Am I correct in thinking that this is actuall a 2GB badged up as an 16GB
Sorry this is so long winded
I hope I have given enough information

doing a quick bit of maths on the first one, all seems to add up to 8 gig (4096x 2,093,051) probably just flaky memory, seek a refund and buy from a reputable dealer, may cost a bit more...Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0

Ebay is littered with fake drives, but why don't you just plug it in and drag 7-8gb of files onto it to try?
What is this HP tool you are using?0 -
I have tried "filling" each of the drives - hence the corrupted files issue
I am in the process of doing it again, however looking at the time it's taking I'm not confident that it's going to go well
HP tool was found in one of the ebay "fake drive" articles - sorry I can't find the link0 -

It's this - http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&swItem=MTX-UNITY-I23839&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN , very handy for reformatting flash drives.
To the OP I found this advice pretty useful in confirming that I too had been done -
"You MUST perform data test by writing a BIG (1GB/2GB/4GB/8GB) file to the usb drive, then READ back the same file from the usb drive to another location on your PC to compare. The READ back process is the only proven way to uncover its 'REAL' capacity. " and "The fake will take an excessively long time (1 to 7 hours) only 'pretending' writing but the data was not actually being written. Hence when you try to read it back, it will claim data as being CORRUPT."“I look like Spiderman at a funeral”~ Karl Pilkington0 -
Thank you so much for your help
I've ran both drives through the HP Drive Key Boot Utility as suggested:
Hong Kong Drive - Bought as 8GB, actually 3.92GB
UK Drive - Bought as 16Gb, actually 3.44GB
Off to the ebay board to find out how to make a claim0 -
Hope you get it sorted OPNo Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20
