Kwik-Fit guarantees for brake pads

Just came across what appears to be a very good deal at Kwik-Fit
Bought new brake pads for the car and after they fitted them (and I had paid) was told that they "guarantee them for the life of the car"- whilst I own it!!!
So any time they wear out from now on I can go back & get new pads. FOR FREE :j
This was on top of the fact that they were £10 cheaper than the main dealer and got the pads from the main dealer whilst I was sitting there.
This is particularly good if you get through brake pads as quickly as I do!!
I was quite impressed with their procedures as well - with double checks of key safety issues - like wheel nut tightness and brake pad fitting.

Does the guarantee not exclude "normal wear and tear"?
I would have thought that the guarantee just covers them against defects. If not then that is a really good deal!

The guarantee says:
"Free replacement of brake pads and/or brake shoes for as long as you own the car
PLUS all labour to honour the guarantee" :T
It excludes other brake parts such as discs - unfortunately - as those go too quickly as well - you do get 12 months or 12,000 miles on those parts.
Also excludes company or commercial vehicles.Drewzz2

This is quite true my dad was telling me ablout this the other day. He Keeps his vehicles for a long time, the last one bought new was a M reg. Keeping a car that long really pays off using this guarantee.
If you change your car every year it may be worth it but shop around.0 -
perhaps one of the mods must move this thread to the motoring board aswell0

Personally I don't rate kwik quit, recently they offered me the same guarantee on brakes but A) It had just been serviced and didn't need brakes and they told me they were worn out (I'd only gone in for a wheel balance)
They were similar priced to main dealers but about 4x dearer than OEM parts from somewhere like eurocarparts and C) They told me I needed new shocks and springs (again the main dealer confirmed nothing wrong with any of those parts)!

I agree. Kwik Fit can be dodgy so it is best to get a second opinion. I went in a few years ago to get the wheels balanced, tracking etc. They did not even bother doing anything and claimed my brake calipers needed replacing. They quoted me a very expensive price. A few days later I took the car for a dealer service and asked them to check the calipers etc. They said there was nothing wrong with them.0 -
At first glance a generous offer, but think about it - they have to cover their costs somehow. Yes this maybe by having the opportunity to suggest other items need replacing on future visits, but also in my opinion the quality of the brake pads they fit, both on the first occassion and subsequently, is not as good as the original pads (on a new car) or quality replacement pads like Mintex. I once had Kwik-Fit pads and the brakes started squealing after a 1000 miles or so.
Would you take up the same offer on a set of budget tyres? Hopefully the answer would be no (cheap tyres in general do not perform as well as branded tyres and can have significantly longer braking distances).
There's no such thing as a free lunch... most of the time anyway.0 -
I ran over a bolt and it stuck in my tyre and started to go down, drove to kwik fit and they fixed it for nothing. I don't know if they still do this? There was a sign on the wall at the time.
I was grateful for this and since that happened i've been there for my doughnuts (2 free) and exhaust.
They do try and get you to change things before they are needed though. E.g. point out rust on the various sections of your exhaust when it's only blowing from one section. I wasn't particularly happy at them banging the catalytic converter while telling me this is the expensive bit. "err yes I know!"
The real selling point for them is they do fit you in no booking.0 -
"Yes Sir of course we will happily replace your brake pads under guarantee but we noticed after inspecting your vehicle you need a new exhaust, four new tyres, four new shock absorbers, a new battery etc etc"...me a cynic? of course we all know Kwikfit is a very ethical company with highly trained salaried staff with absolutely no reason to sell you anything you don't needThe Early bird may catch the worm ...but its the second mouse that gets all the cheese!0
