Well the NHS website also says smoking is bad for your health but there are thousands of octogenarians who've smoked for 70+ years who'll tell you that's crap advice.

Don't believe everything you read on websites! Food poisoning doesn't materialise that quickly.

thats very helpful thanks for your help- i now no smoking isnt bad for me! ~ I am sure it wasnt the anything she ate before,

Doesn't have to be anything she ate?

The last thing you ate is not necessarily the cause of food poisoning. Some symptoms manifest days in or even hours after eating out. There are some symptoms which might manifest in few minutes.

If i think something doesnt taste right, i dont eat it. The fact that she did, and you paid would mean you accepted that the food was to your liking i would say.

At the end of the day, you accepted the meal, in the restaurant and the kitchens prepared it. If you felt it wasn't right you should have sent the meal back - You'd have got much more luck that way than attempting to get your money back.

Having lived with a chef for several months now, I know that they are very proud of their food and like their customers to feel the same - Most chefs would much rather re-prep a meal than have half of it back with a complaint attached.

You could put a complaint in writing to the restaurant, see what they offer. I wouldn't accuse them of giving your wife food poisoning, publically especially as there are many cases where restaurants have taken things further when falsely accused by customers. It is extremely rare for food poisoning to how symptoms so quickly. If you believe your wife has had food poisoning then contact the enviromental health team and she will need to have tests usually. They will investigate and in the case of someone I know they also inspected her home.

Yes, I've heard of this happening too. There was a case local to me where a woman very publically accused a deli of giving her salmonella. Tests from the deli came back negative and it turned out that the woman had caught it from her pet, which was some kind of reptile - apparently this happens often. It was quite a heated situation as the deli demanded a very public retraction, not that it helped as the damage was done. Cost the woman a lot of money.

From a professional point of view I'm glad that Environmental Health take a sensible view and sometimes inspect complainant's homes - I heard of another case where someone accused a bakery of selling them a pie with a bug in it. The bakery came back clean and after investigation it turned out that the person had been storing the pie, half eaten, unwrapped on the top of the fridge for over a week ... Some people just don't take responsibility for their own food hygiene ... (Not a criticism of the OP, just sharing my experiences).

Food poisoning can kick in within a couple of hours it depends on what actually caused the symptoms fish is one that kicks in very quickly. Also just because you ate whatever does not mean that is what caused it, food only has to be prepared in the same area as infected food and can be contaminated. Brie can carry Listeria (pregnant woman are not allowed it due to high chances of contamination which is bad for unborn baby)

Your wife could also have worried herself into feeling sick, its mind over matter sometimes. She thought the food tasted funny and if she didnt enjoy it that alone could make her feel ill, adding the worry that she may of been poisoned probably is not helping.

If you paid for the meal I doubt you'll get a refund as you paid and left, you should of complained at the table, either returning the food or telling them when they asked how the meal was. If she does get ill and you are still thinking the food may be to blame then you need to report it as DMG24 said.
