Perhaps not "the same" but like OP and I'm sure many other moneysavers would agree, it doesn't take a genius to realise you're being Sh*&ted!

    Like OP said
    normal Tesco Thighs £2/kg
    normal Tesco drumsticks £2/kg

buy one kg of each and you have spent £4 for 2kg of chicken

yet buy 2kg of normal Tesco BOGOF anf you have been charged over £4 for the same ammount of chicken - not very moneysaving now, really, is it?

Being cynical, I always check £/unit prices to make sure I'm not being a victim of marketing.

Not sure I agree - won't thighs and drumsticks have differing amounts of bone and therefore the amount of actual chicken you get be different?

Telling how much actual chicken you get and measuring its quality is not that easy. Maybe the BOGOF is a bad buy, maybe it isn't. A pure price per kg comparison doesn't really hack it.

I don't see why they'd switch from mass to volume unless they were deliberately trying to make it confusing.

Supermarkets, trying to confuse? My eyes don't believe this lol

Yeah the musical chairs they play with the units can be a pain, but using kg=litre for most things you won't be far wrong for most liquid foodstuffs - you're generally only talking a couple of % error which "should" be close enough to see if you're being diddled.
 I have a poll / discussion on Economy 7 / 10 off-peak usage (as a % or total) and ways to improve it but I'm not allowed to link to it so have a look on the gas/elec forum if you would like to vote or discuss.

Even if you are right - BOGOF to most people means you are effectively getting each pack half price.

On your argument it is reasonable to suppose that the multi pack on BOGOF contained chicken pieces that would normally cost twice as much as the ordinary packs. Maybe, if they were from organically farmed free range corn fed chickens, but OP says that was not the case.
