Credit card problem

I booked accomodation in Las vegas on my credit card and then the next day I cancelled it, after seeing a better deal. The hotel refunded the same amount back unto my credit card the next day but when i checked my credit card statement there is a huge difference of £50 why is this.
The hotel emailed my confirmation of the same amount as being charged and the credited to my account. The difference shows on my credit card statement. want to get facts straight before i ring the credit card company.

I suspect the exchange rate on the payment and then the refund ie they stitch you up each way, but only the credit card company will be able to tell you for sure.
