oyster card replacement

I have just had to order a replacement Oyster card for my DS as his stopped beeping when he used it on buses. I was asked why it wasn't working and had I damaged it and I said I thought I had put it through the washing machine once but other than that I had no idea why it would not work.

As it was deemed to be my fault I had to pay £10 for the renewal but apparently if I had just stated I had no idea why it didn't work then it would have been a free replacement.

I thought I was being helpful saying it might have been in the washing machine..although I now realise it was his school pass I washed and not the Oyster card, so be warned. If you do need a replacement child card and there is no obvious reason why the card is not working then say that, don't try to be helpful by suggesting reasons why it might not work.

It is because it is a 'free' child photocard and the only way of getting a replacement is to phone them up and explain what happened to the old one.
