Sainsburys Bank Visa Card - Application Rejected

in Credit cards
I applied for the platinum card and have recieved a letter stating my application has been rejected on the grounds that I 'do not meet the standard criteria according to their scoring system'
I have never had a problem getting credit before and I thought even if they dont accept me for the platinum I would be accepted for the standard? Anyway they say I can contact them (address only, no phone number given anywhere) if I have any other information but I wondered if anyone else has problems getting this card? Do you know what kinds of things would affect my application even though I have a good credit history?

I got rejected, but I think it was either that I had applied for too many cards too quickly, or that I had too much credit available to me from other cards.0

It has happened to me a few times and it's impossible to find out why. If as you say you have a good credit record then the most likely is that you've applied for too many credit cards recently. This can give an impression you are desperate for money.
Never leave a rejection. Always write an indignant letter back explaining that you have a good credit record, are nowhere near up to your ears in debt and finally that you are so upset you will never shop in Sainsbury again. This worked with Diners and Goldfish (although in latte two cases I said I would badmouth then around town).
..only do this if you really do have a good credit record.
Lastly, it is just possible that a typo in your address could result in your address not coming up for credit score...if that's the case it can depress your scoring and result in a card rejection. This has also happened to me and I have to be carerful always to give my address as it appears on my council tax bill and not as I prefer it to be.
Don't worry, I have always managed to get other cards despite the odd rejection or two.
Let us know how you get on.

Just seen martinpike's reply. Good point re too much credit...I always close accounts for high interest rate cards....and then apply for them again a year or so later.0

Hi all, thanks for getting back to me so quickly!
I have applied for a new CC to BT to and have been accepted but not recieved card yet, also about 6 months ago I got a Texaco card for another BT so I have 2 cards, will have 3 when new one arrives. So maybe it is just that they think I am desparate for credit. (I'm not, am trying my hand at 'tarting'!)
I have checked address and is Ok, only thing I can think is maiden/married name, most of my credit history will be in maiden name, so you think this matters?
I am really relieved to hear I am not the only one this has happened too, I dont want to get refused for credit in the future. I will write them a stern letterb anyway and see what happens (its a great card for purchases, I'm a bit gutted actually!)0 -
Wonder if this has got anything to do with it

If they were dropping 2 months off the promotion, they may not have wanted you to get the card? Will there ever be a boy born who can swim faster than a shark?0 -
Thanks for the link Karl.. in my letter I will state that I am willing to accept the new offer for 10 months and keep my fingers crossed! Will let you know how I get on. Thanks again all.0

Only last week I was approved for the standard card after having applied for the platinum one. I'm waiting for my card at the moment, having posted the signed agreement off at the end of last week.
I have kept a copy of the Ts & Cs too, so I won't be on here moaning if/when they do something I don't like.
Thanks to Karl Karlsson - I applied when it was 12 months at 0% but will now, upon receiving the card, phone them to check. I wouldn't have picked up on that so your post was helpful to me.0 -
I doubt it's to do with the change in 0% terms; I suspect it's that you have applied for so many cards.
If you are going to transfer balances and keep moving those balances around then you only need to apply for one card at a time. Apply for the next one just before the balance due on the other one and so on.0
