Hi this is a bit of a long story so in a nutshell
I want my money back so i can replace my speakers.
help!!
- has a major accident car was immediatly a write off at the time face off stereo was removed
- car was collected told the man to take out my stereo and speakers and we would collect at later date
- Direct line assesor called and gave me a valuation i declined. I also told the same man i have my stereo and speakers and tax disc to collect he said thats fine.
- He said i would recieve a letter with a new claim after 2 days. Nothing arrived after 2 weeks. Called again car instorage said i want my stereo and speakers thats fine i could collect when convenient.
- Still no Cheque 3 weeks later, spoke to same gentleman he said he didnt recall seeing the speakers even after i told him they were in the car!! He said this nust happen all the time and to deal with Direct line. But yet somehow my tax disc was sent back to my add?
- New storage people denied ever having the speakers even after i told them i was going to collect... and have pictures to prove, meanwhile i still have no money for my car yet some chav has swipped my belongings and no ones taking ownership.
- Furious at Direct Line made a complaint they sent the money 1 month after my accident accepted because didnt wana deal with them and they sent me a poxy standard letter for the inconvenience.
I want my money back so i can replace my speakers.

I can understand your frustration given the events described but as far as I am aware, if the stereo equipment was fixed to the car, if you wanted to retain it then the value of it would be deducted from the settlement cheque anyway.0

Been a while since I had a policy with Direct Line, but I am sure in my policy T&Cs insurance was terminated in the event of a total loss. You might want to check wording in your own policy."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

But this is the point.
If they are fixed to the vehicle then they are part and parcel of the car. When a car is a total loss if the insured chooses to retain any parts (salvage) then the value of the retained salvage is deducted from the settlement cheque.
Assuming you disclosed the uprated stereo system to your insurers as a modification - which you should have done - then the settlement cheque should really take into account the value of the car + extras.
Given that the stuff will probably never be found, your only option really is to use your insurer's omplaints procedure, which will be specified in your policy documentation, to argue for a higher settlement.0
