Npower caught out by Sunday Times reporter

Maybe, having looked at their company profile/history, they are looked upon more favourably than we realise due to their past support of government initiatives etc? Just a thought  .0

It's quite funny reading the comments posted on the Times article regarding some of the lies told some nPower canvassers. One said that they were from Watchdog and were investigating over-charging on electric bills. Another said that all of nPower's electricity was generated by nuclear power-stations (hence the "n" in the name!) and so could offer cheaper power. Yet another said that nPower had taken over the two local power stations and that everyone would have to change to nPower, otherwise they wouldn't get any electricity. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0

We had one call last week (to a flat we've just moved into)...didn't say he was from nPower (I noticed it at the top of a piece of paper he was trying to get me to sign)...asked if we were Mr & Mrs X (previous tenants name) which he had listed on his form and wanted to update it with our names and get us to sign his piece of paper - said we were missing out on the cheap deal on gas and electricity organised for our group of flats as he didn't have our details...no mention of 'would you like to move your supplier to nPower'...
Was really annoyed....! I don't mind genuine enquiries but not people trying to trick me into things...0 -
Clearly a company being run by a bunch of crooks.0

I've just had these muppets at my door, told them I wasnt interested in sales, and they told me it wasnt sales! How dare they come to my door and tell blatant lies, wouldnt consider touching npower with a barge pole after that.Aha, so thats how you do a signature!0

This was featured on BBC's You and Yours yesterday. You can hear it here (Real Player) :-

I was not impressed by the answers and assurances given by the boss of nPower. His assertion that it was non-typical sales-team that was featured by the Sunday Times didn't ring true, as the paper said they were chosen at random.
I think the MP made a good point when he queried whether this sort of door-step selling should be going on at all, when these sales-people seem to target the more vulnerable and less savvy members of society. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0 -
I moved address a number of years back and Npower turned up the day I moved in, said they're the default supplier for my address and needed my signature. Given I had so much going on I took him for his word, gave a signature and he went on his way. I then called Npower to say I wanted a note on the account not to hinder a transfer as I wanted to go back on my original supplier as soon as the minimum term had finished. Turns out, you've guessed it, I was told the rep had duped me. It seems they had been in the area and seen the moving van from the old householder the previous day. Disgusting practice really and I never received an apology.0

You've lost me there, John - support of government initiatives?Says James, in my opinion, there's nothing in this world
Beats a '52 Vincent and a red headed girl0 -
I'm fed up of their sales people doorstepping me. They usually arrive in two's and suggest I'm someone who doesn't live at my address.
Apologies to the more sensitive but it always gives me the greatest pleasure to utter the immortal words- 2 x f--k off!!
Obviously not blacklisted yet!0 -

just after I moved into my house they came round saying they were checking things on behalf of my energy company, I didn't know who the energy company supplying the property were at that point as I'd only been here 3 days.
South African guy - insisted he was not a sales person and made it sound as if it was he had been sent to help with something or other by my existing supplier. I was a bit thrown as I live near a power station and he made it sound as if it was connected to that.
All a bit wooly though and I asked him 3 times if he was a salesman but he denied it.
I'd heard enough eventually and asked him to leave (not like me to let a salesman in but he caught me out). He refused to go and only went when I offered to help him out the door
Lesson - avoid them and don't let them in your house.0
