Internet explorer problem

When I try to access some websites the message , internet explorer cannot connect you to this site.
I am using Virgin PC Guard antivirus
This is a new computer (6 weeks old )
Do I have a virus or are my settings wrong ?
Can anyonr please help

    Is there a pattern to the sort of sites you cannot access, e.g. are they all over SSL (i.e. using https addresses instead of http)?

    also try Start , Then All programs, then Accessories , then System Tools , there is an option to run Internet Explorer with no add ons

    see if that works

    otherwise it may be the PcGuard
