THIS IS MY SITUATION
At the moment i am a stay at home mum with 3 young children my husband works full time and earns £19,000 per year .I would love to go back to college to be a social worker so not sure what courses i would need to do at present but eventually to do a degree in social care .
QUALIFICATIONS I ALREADY HAVE
BTEC in design
BA hons in design ( i did this degree over 12 years ago )
What i am unsure about is when i did this degree i got my tution fees paid i was living at home then i was not married & i had no children so because i have already had help with course fees will i not get help this time if i want to do another degree ?
Does anyone else know of any other help burserys ect which i could get doing a social work course .

Social Work degrees carry a bursary but you will have to pay course fees for which loans are available; your existing degree may qualify you for a 2 year Masters course. Don't get muddled between Social Care and Social Work degrees as only the latter will qualify you as a Social Worker. Have you got GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths? Do you have relevant experience?0

I don't think you can no, I know usually the loans go out to people who are advancing, not going back. As you have a degree already I don't think you are entitled unless you are planning on studying a masters.0

I'm in my first year Social Work BA. I'm not sure whether the NHS bursery applies to MA courses.

You must have GCSE in both English and Maths for Social Work but you can phone your local provider to see whether they'll accept something like the C&G Literacy and Numeracy as alternatives.
Why would you want to use your bursary to pay your fees when a loan is available? Yes, it's an annual amount, as are the fees!0 -

Your credit history is irrelevant when it comes to student loans but I'm afraid that you must have GCSE English and Maths or equivalent; it's a statutory requirement. Ask about the C&G Literacy and Numeracy at your local college, they were free until recently. But also check with your local university as to whether they will accept them. In the area where I used to work they would accept the Numeracy Level 2 qualification but you needed the full GCSE in English. Your earliest entry date ifor social work training is going to be September 2009 so you've got plenty of time. You could start the C&G courses straight away, using the Literacy as a preparation for the GCSE English but giving yourself plenty of time to work through Level 1 Numeracy before doing the Level 2. It's a very scaled down version of Maths GCSE and many people manage it who couldn't manage the Maths.
What's your situation regarding relevant work experience? If you don't have any you'll need to get this started before even thinking of applying. You used to have to have the equivalent of one year full time but this has been relaxed recently and you can get in with less. Which university would you be looking to study with?0 -
Have you thought about doing an Access course at your local college? These courses get you fully prepared for university and are accepted as an entry route. The college would then also help with your UCAs entry and advise on things like finance.0

Access courses are fantastic but the OP is unlikely to get any funding for it. She will still need the English and Maths, even with an Access course.0
