What is wrong with some Ebayers all of a sudden?

Hi,

Been having real problems with Ebay at the minute, nothing has been selling, people are buying and then not paying...and argh! its just all a mess!!

OH sold a Sony Erricsson K800i mobile phone about 4weeks ago, but the transaction was stopped by Paypal as they were investigating into the buyer but wouldn't explain why, waited 3 weeks and nothing happened, buyer messaged OH saying that he had paid through paypal and when would he receive his phone, was told that paypal were investigating him and to get in touch with them to sort it out then the phone would be sent. Buyer didn't both getting in touch with paypal, so had to email paypal and cancel it all, relist and then that day, someone from Germany bought the phone, paid, but paypal wouldnt send the payment until we supplied them with a transaction ID is this normal? never sent over sea's so I'm not sure.
This buyer then left ebay that same day, so no payment is being sent and we have contacted ebay about this. surely we don't have to send the phone as a) they have left ebay b) we think that they are scammers, as the ebay is in germany, but the paypal is in Nigeria??
Then I sell a phone, and the buyer doesnt give me feed back for over a week, so I'm worried that they havent received the phone or anything, they did eventually leave feedback but only after I messaged to make sure everything is ok.

Whats going on with Ebay at the minute? I'v been using it for bout 6 years and never had any of these problems we keep having now :(

I have highlighted the bit in bold that makes that a textbook Nigerian scam.
Always make sure the money is in your account. Emails can be faked and I guarantee the one you received was NOT sent by paypal. By the way, Germans prefer to pay by bank transfer, as a rule!

Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j

Ahhh thanks for that!! I thought the email didn't look very PayPal-ish it was very blue and red, and PayPal are in normal black on white or with blue and white
  • Anything to do with Nigeria and eBay is automatically a scam.

See the many posts about eBay account settings which reduce the chance of scammers bidding on your items.

I once had an email from the "Post Office" telling me they had a postal order for me for the amount I'd sold a digital camera for, and they would deliver it to my house once I scanned in proof of postage of the item to the address specified and emailed it to them.
