Earning Increase

Good evening all, I thank you all in advance for any help/advice you may be able to give me and also apologise if this matter has been asked/resolved a 100 times before. I would like to tell you my circumstances and ask for some feedback.

I am married have three kids ( one who revieves DLA - high rate) and work in a sales enviroment meaning my wages change month by month. My wife does not work due to looking after children.

Las t year I explained to tax credit people that I was unsure what I would earn and they told me to make an estimate I put in 18k and was told to asses it during the course of the year, from this estimate we received aprox £175 per week in CTC does this sound about right?

Anyway there is a chance of promotion at work that I have been told I will get it means a salary of £25k BUT the hours will be longer I'll be working everyweekend and there is no possibility for the wife to get a job so we need to work out what CTC we would be get and weigh up if it is enough and worthwhile taking the promotion or sticking with what we have and hoping for the wofe to get some part time work later in the year when the youngest starts school.

No one at the tax credit helpline seem to be able to help and though I would ask for some advice?
Thanks

does your wife claim carers? allowance as she would be entitled

Generally, you'd only be entitled to the basic element of ctc on that income, which would be £30 a week I think.

But I'm unsure if it is different for your child with the disability or not? Do you get extra for that, or not?

Another thought: once your new award is started, any pay rises of less than £25000 will not take effect until April 2009. I don't now when the new hours are set to happen but this may be worth thinking about.

They just assesed mine on an income of 25k with 3 kids one on high rate care and it came out at £120 a week. but that included the carers allowance of 2500 a year so earnings 22500 and 2500 carers allowance. If your wife gets carers allowance you would have to add it in.

Thanks for all you responses very helpful.
I have just completed the "do I qualify section" on tax credit website as it is now updated for 2008/09 year.
If i put my salary down as 25k per year and click all the right boxes regarding disabilty for 2nd child it gives me an estimated award of £145 pw. My question now is will tax credits allow me to estimate that as my earnings this years so I get a true award as i dont want to get more this year and have it taken back next time around is that the best way to do it?

    thanks again
