network key

Hi

I have just had internet installed and I have managed to get my laptop working but the other desk top computor will not connect. I can see the connection but when I click on and it asks for the network key the one supplied is only 8 letters long and the prompt is asking for 10 digits. I read the help pages and they advised me to reconfiger the router from WAP to WEP which I did and the desktop connected but my laptop would not so I changed it back. Is there another way?

Log in to the router and disable the Wep/Wap /Wireless security .
    Save and reboot router .
Now get the two machines talking to each other /connected . Once they are happy on line log back in to the router wireless set up and set a password WEP if you can if not use WAP .Pick a password save it somewhere and just put that password in any wireless connected machines .
I find using something like the make of your car or any other easy to remember short sentence is easiest . ( eg vauxhallcorsasport )

Thanks jje for your help. Could you advise how to log into the router?
