Advice re new computer

I've just got a new computer running Vista Premium. This has a firewall and Windows Defender - do I need to download another firewall and antispyware eg. comodo and avg? If I do download another firewall do I need to delete or disable the Vista one?

Any advice much appreciated.

    Vista Firewall OK
    Windows defender poor

    Recommend free SuperAntispyware .

Kaspersky are doing a free 60 day trail might be best to try before buying . Cheap copies on Aria.co.uk and scan.co .uk three computer licence about £15 .
The Internet suite antivirus plus firewall . Firewall will turn Vistas off once installed .

Comodos firewall very good but needs experience .
A lot of users recommend the free AVF anti virus
I have tried them all and am protected 100% by Kaspersky Internet Suite and SuperAntispyware in some very dark corners of the internet .

Just activate the Firewall on the Windows Defender, to protect your computers from viruses and hackers. Also schedule a virus scan on a daily basis so that your computer doesn't get affected from virus or malware. So it runs smoothly without any problems. My windows defender virus scanner is scheduled 2am on a daily basis so it all does it automatically when I am asleep :), Also I have avast for email scanning and just general web surfing.

    I hope this helped :)

Sorry if I sound a bit thick but I've always wondered... does a scheduled antivirus scan still work when the computer is switched off - as it would most likely be at 2am?

If its set for 2am then the anti virus would kick in next time the pc is turned on next(could be wrong though)

With a decent AV you dont have any need to scan on a frequent basis .
Install the AV and update it to the latest virus definitions .
Run a full computer scan . Then all you need to do is to make sure it updates itself on a frequent basis and that vary between products ( kaspersky updates hourly ).
If you have an suspicious e-mails or files the program should pick them up .
You can always scan just the one suspect file email or whatever usually by a right click to make doubly sure .
