Sky Billing for 4years ago!!

Hi,
I hope this is the right forum - I have been trying to put it on the Consumer problem Forum but cant see where to open New Thread. (If you turn my house upside down I am sure the sky box would fall out)
I pay my Sky account by Direct debit and always pay £21 which is my monthly bill. I have never used Box Office or ordered pay for view programmes. In fact we have never had the box connected to the phone line as when we had it installed it caused so much interference to the line that Bt advised us to disconnect it.
My February bill included an extra £36 for pay to view programmes that we were supposed to have ordered nearly four years ago - I have never ordered these programmes an neither have any of my family. I have spoken to Sky and their records do not go back that far and they cannot tell me who ordered them or how thet were ordered! Any similar problems - and would be grateful for any advice please.

If the records do not go back that far, then how have they suddenly realised that you owe these charges???? seems a bit odd to say tha least.

    Hello alcutler

I'll move your thread to 'The (Consumer) Vent' board.

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.

    Regards

I may be talking waffle but I'm sure I remember reading somewhere that if you order something from sky but your phone line isnt plugged in you still get it but it isn't charged to your account until the phone line is plugged in. Have you plugged the phone line from your sky box lately? If you haven't then the chances are I'm remembering incorrectly (at which point please disregard this post :rotfl:) but it may explain why you are suddenly charged for something that even sky doesn't remember.

No you're right, PPV purchases are stored on the box and uploaded over the phone link.

Thank you, my memory isn't what it should be considering my age (I'm not even 30!).

So theoretically if the OP ordered some PPV events 4 years ago and hasn't plugged their sky box into the phone line in the intervening years then they wouldn't have been charged until now (all supposing the OP has recently plugged their Sky box into a socket).

Interesting and is certainly one explanation as to why there has been no mention of these PPV charges until recently.

    I'm 31 - it's all downhill from where you are now ;)

Thanks all you 'old codgers' for your replies, I take on board what you say, and I know this may sound improbable but we have never ordered any ppv programmes from Sky. The box has never been connected to the phone and we dont know the pin number - I have emailed Sky and asked them to give me a breakdown of these programmes and who and how they were ordered - I am also asking that they reimburse me until the matter is sorted
