EBAY BIDDING

As a new user of EBAY can some more experienced users please explain the following. I bid on an item and watched the screen run down to the end of the auction showing myself as the highest bidder, but then was informed by e-mail that I had been outbid by 50p by another user. This at notime came up on the screen as the auction closed.

the person that outbid you had probably used an auction-snipe tool.
This means that they place there bid in the last seconds ie. 1 sec left, so noone else can win the item

if you click the number of bids then it'll show you everybody who bid and at what time their bids came in0
