Ex Directory & Talktalk

When we were with BT, due to harrasing telephone calls and other problems (police were involved) BT changed our telephone number and we were ex directory listed. Two years ago we changed to TalkTalk and I would have told them the number was to be ex directory.
Whilst looking for a telephone number on bt.com directory enquiries I found my full name, address and telephone number listed. I checked the paper directory and I was listed there as well. I checked other online directories and found my details listed on all of them.
I contacted BT initially as it was a bt directory I found the details in. I was told to contact talktalk which I did.
The first call to Talktalk customer services was cut off halfaway throught the conversation as was the second call. On the third call I got through to the Durban Call Centre I asked to speak to a Manager and was told none were available one would ring back maybe tonight maybe tomorrow. I asked if there was a number in England I could call and was told I would need to keep ringing I might get lucky. On the fourth call I got the Durban call centre and eventually managed to speak to a Manager who apologised for the listing on the directories and promised to get the online ones sorted out but obviously could do nothing about the paper one. As a gesture of good will I have been given £5 of my next three bills!!
I have also e mailed Charles Dunstone at Carphone Warehouse to complain .
So anyone with Talktalk who thinks they are ex Directory please check all directories to make sure.
Does anyone know where we stand with this. Is it a breach of Data Protection.

Talk Talk has previous.
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?p=5458523&highlight=talk+talk+directory#post5458523Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Thanks for that - it seems I am not the only one it has happened to.0
