Apologies, that comment wasen't directed at you.
I feel it is a tad hypocritical for you to be posting on a website which centres itself around taking advantage of situations just like this one.
Okay, I won't post any more. I'mfed up with not being able to voice an opinion just because someone else disagrees. Whatever happened to 'be nice to all moneysavers'? I try to give my opinion without being rude and I did say that I admire Jordan's positive attitude towards saving.
I have enough rubbish going on in real life without being attacked here. Goodbye, I'll deregister myself.0 -
Those that knocked the OP for investing student loans are getting on the back of the wrong person if you think this shouldn't be allowed then it's the government you should be blaming not a savvy young person who is doing the best for himself.
What he is doing is about as MSE as it gets.
As for having fun at uni personally i agree to some extent but think of it this way he will be the sort of driven person who will have his mortgage paid off by his mid thirties and be doing the sort of things that most of us in our sixties will be incapable of doing, when we have paid off our mortgages.
A big slap on the back to you fella!!!0 -
i think its a good idea, why not take a loan and save it? you will pay enough taxes in the future. As a student myself i have borrowed £17k in student loan but spent most of it on rent, (about £140 pw) if i had the chance to live at home i would have done!!0

ok - please re-read this whole thread after calming down. don't take anything personally. you voiced your opinion, but as it turns out there are probably more people who disagree with than agree. that just happens sometimes! your posts are still there and haven't been removed so you are clearly able to make your point, it's just not the most popular view point on here!!
don't deregister from MSE because some people didn't agree (and in general no-one has been all that rude to you, more to the OP but telling them they are morally in the wrong). you really haven't been 'attacked' and you shouldn't go and deregister to try and prove a point as i think most MSErs have lots of valuable advice (even if it isn't always what i want to hear it makes sense!) and you'll be cutting off your nose to spite your face!:happyhear0 -
i have to throw my bit in here, although you have sense to do that, I cant blame you, Id have done the same...
BUT since i didnt, although you havent blown it, you haven't used it for student books, college/uni stuff either, which is its intended purpose have you?0 -

No....the intended purpose is living allowance i.e. rent and food.
No-one spends 3k+ a year on books.
I couldn't afford to do this, but I would have done if I had had such a large parental allowance to allow me to.
If the OP refused the loan, no one else would get anymore, that isn't the way it works - he wasn't depriving people of anything.0 -
Thanks, Melancholly, but I just don't want to share my advice or opinions anymore, because I feel they're not wanted. I don't expect everyone to agree with me, but most of my posts here were picked out, and yes, I feel targeted. So as soon as I can work out how to deregister I will do so. It isn't toprove a point, I just don't want to post if I can't feelfree to say what I want (as nicely as possible). I don't need this hassle.
I'm a real person behind this ID, mostly I don't worry whether people agree with me, but if I can't give a different POV and have a debate I don't see the point of posting.0 -

Not really sure what the problem is? In your first post on the thread you stated that you didn't think a student loan should be used in this way. Multiple people picked up on this point and debated against it stating that this is what this website is all about. This isn't targetting you, this is debating with you which you consented to by posting in the first place.
You can give a different point of view but there is no need to get upset when people just happen to disagree. It's not personal.0 -
This is pointless. My last message. Shan't be reading this any more,or posting my advice.
PS you called me hypocritical. That feels personal.0 -
