Can Any help Me?????
For the last 10 years I have been on pre-payment Gas and Electricity meters. I would love to change so i could pay my bills by DD however once again the utility companies are in charge and they want to charge me extortionate rates to swap my meters.
I want to know if anyone else has experienced this and how they got round it:mad:

Been investigating a lot this week about different leccy tarrifs and have come accross all sorts of stuff (most of whish is irrelevant lol) but one thing I did recall seeing was a list of "rates" for jobs like this that the suppliers (i.e. who you pay for leccy) have to pay the distributers (the people who supply in your area) for work.
IIRC to change a meter was something like £35.
Of course they may be lumping a "security deposit" on top of this for the risk from going from pre-paid (i.e. they can't loose money) to post-paid (i.e. they bill you and you may not pay)
I have a poll / discussion on Economy 7 / 10 off-peak usage (as a % or total) and ways to improve it but I'm not allowed to link to it so have a look on the gas/elec forum if you would like to vote or discuss.:cool:0 -
You could try Ebico, Mamma...same rates for dd as prepay0

If you get charged a security deposit, just switch right after if you find a Supplier with cheaper rates. You get it back then and the new Supplier won;'t be charging a deposit since they won't care that you swapped from PP with the old Supplier.
If they are charging for the meter fitting instead, not all charge so you could switch.
Hey Mute, Suppliers tend to have contracts to cover X jobs per month per contract so not all pass the cost on as long as they are kept within budget on the contract. You also tend to find that the larger the customer base, the cheaper those rates due to a bulk contract. Worth shopping round though if you get caught in the situation.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0
