I've just been to the vets for my cats annual jab. They only sell the Frontline Combo now, its £20 for 3 & £35 for 6, is it worth the extra it costs over & above the regular Frontline (my vets not longer sell Frontline regular).

They only sell the Miramax worming tablets now & not Drontal. The Miramax cost a lot more.

I think they work out about £6 each!

The combo apparently works on the environment by breaking the life cycle.

If Frontline 'normal' has been working for you then you can get it online without a prescription from pet pharmacies - I use https://www.vetuk.co.uk - 6 frontline are £16.46 with free delivery. They sell Drontal too at £1.42 per tablet

The ordinary frontline and drontal is available online without a prescription from any of the pet pharmacys......much much cheaper than the vets, i think I paid £1.60 a tablet for drontal and about £20( depending on dog size) for frontline last time.

Frontline combo is better if you already have a flea problem:eek: ( which I'm sure you don't) but you can ask your vet for a prescription, which they can't refuse by law if you need it and again buy on line.

The only drugs I get from my vet now are when one of the animals needs them in a hurry! Anything long term is bought on line.....soooooo much cheaper.

Of my 2 cats Newton is fine with either but Sherlock, though ok with the original after a minute leaped in the air and gave me the most pitying look when I used the combo stuff on him.

Depends how much they go out and socialise with other cats.

Newton is far too snotty to socialise unless it's to bend a dog to his will and Sherlock, although friendly, doesn't invite anyone back. He used to at his old place but fears Newt's reaction now I gather.

They are only treated every 2 months from May to September with the ordinary stuff and it's years since we had fleas.

If you don't have a flea prob just get the original and depending on your cats habits maybe every 6 weeks or so could be enough.

I don't like over medicating and think that considering the details
on the packet its just a myth that we should do it every month . S'all down to the individual cat in question.

Sherlocks on my knee and interfering with the typing, this has taken ages!

    Hope it helps!

    Hi Fern.

Ted doesn't mix with cats much, he doesn't really like them:rotfl:

The only time hes ever had fleas was when we moved into a new house, I think they may already have been there:eek:

What I do is Frontline one month then the 4 fleas tablet one month.

So a combo of treatment/prevention. It seems to work.
  • I've just spoken to my vet about ordering flea prevention meds online, and he was very impressed at the prices and said there was no way he could match that.

But i have been using Advocate for my 2 cats, on recommendation from my vet, and vetuk do this (with a prescription) for £11.86 for 3.
I asked him which is better, Frontline or Advocate, and he said both well established, altho' Frontline is a lot older and so not as up to date with chemicals and research ( i guess).

But he did say that if ticks were the main concern, then go for Frontline.
If it was fleas predominantly, then the Advocate, which also does worms, and ear mites, and ticks.

So i think i'm going to stick with Advocate, but buy it online. My vet is happy to write a presription for me, altho' did say that next year we will have to pay for prescrips.
