Tax credit rebate

Hi,
I was this morning looking for information on entitlement to tax credits and stumbled upon a website called www.taxcredits.org.uk . This agency is saying that the year before tax credits were introduced, there was a different allowance available which was never advertised. Apparently you can still claim this money. £520-£1040 allowance, so well worth it.
This sounds great and according to the criteria, I would be entitled to £520 BUT this organisation charges £94 for claiming on your behalf. I was wondering if anyone else had heard of this allowance and claimed individually and who to claim from.
I would love to try and claim myself so as not to line the pockets of another agency but not sure how legit this all is.
Any help would be much appreciated.

If you were entitled to it, call your local tax office yourself and save £94.0

Children's tax credit started in April 2001. It replaced the married couples' (tax) allowance. If you qualified it was worth £520 a year or £10 a week per household. It was replaced by the current Child Tax Credit which was introduced in 2003.
I can't remember the details of it apart from I don't think it wasn't actually paid to you like the ctc is now but meant you paid less tax on any earnings. There are strict time limits for reclaiming anything owed by HMRC but if you're in time and are entitled they should pay interest on top.
Ring HMRC but specify that it was this earlier one not the current child tax credit.
There is no need to allow these profit-making firms to make money out of something which is simple enough to do yourself.I'll get you, my pretty, and your little dog too!0
