Bo'ness & Kinneil Railway is a good day out.0

Almond Valley Park in livingston. I live in Bothwell takes about 30 minutes on M8. It is about 14 for family ticket and we take a picnic. They have indoor sand, cars for kids to drive, tractors for kids, trampolines, animals. There is also indoor play area with another being built at the moment. You can watch the goats get milked. Can spend whole day (when the weather is nice). It is a great day out and well worth £140

Chatelherault Country Park, other side of M74 from Strathclyde park. Interesting house, museum, very good kids play area, walks, etc.

Have you thought about cycling. There are some great routes for the family in scotland. My kids are 4 & 6 and they manage OK. (wee one is on a trailgator) If you look at cyclescotland website you will see which routes are suitable for families, most are free to use.
Some areas will hire a bike & trailer at not too much expense. Also with a backpack you can take a picnic so your only expense should be travel to your cycle route.
might see you sometime:D0 -
We have been to the Falkirk Wheel a few times. It is free to go in and go to the Visitors Centre but you do have to pay if you want to go for a boat trip on the wheel.
There is a wonderful play park there and when we go we take a picnic and watch the canal boatsTreat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.0
