Wickes :-(

I bought a new upvc door lock yesterday. It was packaged in induction sealed plastic. Ok so to fit this lock (which is marked up as european) I have to remove it from its plastic packaging. Anyway its the wrong one about 20mm too short. Not a problem as I had to go back today to buy some more goods so I took the lock with me to exchange which they were happy to do so. Well the girl on the till wanted to charge me 5% because the packaging was damaged. I'm not happy about this because it not my fault the goods can only be removed by cutting the packaging. So I asked to speak to the manager, brilliant he say its going to cost me 20%. Now I'm getting fed up so I ask for there head office phone number and ring them there and then. To be advised that at the managers discretion they can charge up to 25%.
So the moral of the story don't buy from Wickes if you are not 100% sure the goods are going to fit. Better still don't buy from them in the first place.

My opinions are purely my own act on them at your own risk

thats really bad of them
i bought something from b & q the other day and said if ok to return if didn't fit and they said fine just make sure you dont wreck the packaging so i just cut it across the top.
check your consumer rights0 -
you DO NOT have a right to return goods bought in error BUT on the recipt they offer full refund if the goods are returned in there original condition (ie packaging not damaged) which is there loophole. I guess I'm going to lose this one not to bothered not the alcohol has kicked in as it not really a lot of money but it is the principal grrrrrr
Ah well there loss cos I wont be going back and I've got a lot of work to do around hereMy opinions are purely my own act on them at your own risk :think:0 -

Its not a loophole
The fact is wickes cant resell that good at full profit margin, they will either need to scrap it, reduce it or repackage it at their costs due to your mistake and no one else
If it was faulty fair enough but its not
Companies arent offering products for trial, they offer them for sale and if it doesnt meet the needs after you have agreed any refund is entirely at their discretion
Id suggest you actually make sure your buying the correct things in future instead of blaming a shop who have already been far more accomodating than they need to be0 -

I kind of agree - but have you ever noticed how many packages in places like Wickes and B&Q have been opened and then obviously returned and taped back together and just put back on the shelf at full price?
I bought a light timer once from B&Q, fitted it and it didn't work so returned it as faulty and they swapped it for another which also didn't work (later found out it was a bad batch) returned the 2nd one only to find the one I had returned earlier (which they knew to be faulty) was taped up back on the display - you guessed it, at full price.I have a poll / discussion on Economy 7 / 10 off-peak usage (as a % or total) and ways to improve it but I'm not allowed to link to it so have a look on the gas/elec forum if you would like to vote or discuss.
