No Ethernet Light

Mum's lappie has been wiped and reloaded today, and I can't re-connect the internet. There is no ethernet light showing on the router (Voyageur 210). I've rung her isp and they think I need to reinstall a driver - not sure which! The router is connected through a little 'adapter' thingy as there is no internet port.

Can anyone help - please note, tech numptie:o
Cheers

Looks like they've not installed the drivers for the network adapter on the laptop.

Use this to update the driver for the voyager 210

Thanks - is it the driver for the adapter or the router that I need? Also, have downloaded the driver onto my pc, can I transfer to the lappie with a stick?

If there is no ethernet light on the router/laptops' network connection it can generally only mean one of 3 things.

1: Either the laptop or the router has a faulty port
2: The cable is damaged or unplugged
3: The laptop hasn't got the drivers installed for it's network adaptor.

As Conar says, I would guess it's the laptop lacking the drivers for the network adaptor (you don't need drivers for routers when they are connected via ethernet*).

You should be able to download the driver onto the pc, copy it to a memory stick or disk and load it onto the laptop with ease :)

    cheers everyone
It looks like it's the adapter driver that I need then. I've googled but can't find one, anyone know where there is one? Otherwise I guess it's pc world and a new adapter:sad:

Routers don't need drivers (the link to Drivers above is only relevant if the router is connected with a USB cable. The OP is connecting with ethernet).

All the CD would do is to install some junk and a shortcut link to the Routers access page (192.168.1.1 or similar)

It's the little adaptor we are interested in.

Thanks all for replies. The adapter had no name or number on it so took it to pc world and they didn't recognise it. I got a new adapter (for £5!!) which is better as it plugs into the card slot, thus freeing up a usb, plugged it in and the light appeared like magic. Result! I was at wits end last night not knowing why the light wouldn't work - made worse by the fact that the new cartridge made the printer sulk!!
