electric meter

has anyone had a meter before and are they more expensive than if you just pay a bill, as someone has told me they are.

and is it easy to get them to remove it so i can pay a bill instead. just moved to house and never had one before.

  • do you mean a pre-payment meter?

I believe they are currently slightly more expensive rates, but I believe this was addressed in the Budget in March because the higher rates affected low income families disproportionately.

  • yes it is a pre payment meter.

its a pain having to go to the shop and get the plastic key swiped for more credit.

just wondering if they will charge for removing it
  • I'm not sure - never been in that position.

I assume they may credit-check you and possible ask for a deposit to go on a billed system?

I'm sure someone will be along shortly who knows.

Hi sassy.....Ebico are the only provider who charge the same for pre-pay and credit meter. Good simple tariff for low users.

    Hi,

Some charge, some don't. You can always switch to one that doesn't anyway to avoid the fee.

You will be credit checking but as long as you have been a good payer for a year you should be ok.

They may ask you for a security deposit. They will hold onto that for a while, but you can always get around it by switching as they then refund it straight away and your new Supplier won't even know about any of this so won't be charging you a deposit.
