Bed Bugs !

The bed bugs hide away in nooks and crannies duing the day - a favourite place they like is where the floor meets the wall. Use a vacuum cleaner with a crevice tool attached to attempt to suck them up - it's amazing how effetive a vacuum cleaner is fighting an infestation like this. Also check seams and edges of the mattress, they like to hide there as well during the day - look for little black spots - these are there droppings."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

Bugs like warm and moist - just the conditions your bed provides. So as a child when your parents told you "...to make your bed..." you now have a good excuse not to.
It'll be a hastle, but dont make your bed, if possible remove the quilt and air it outside.
By making your bed you keep the 'nice' conditions around for them little $"£$ for a bit longer than you need.
**Just a thought - would it be worth applying insect replent before going to bed (I know its something you shouldnt have to, but it might help)0 -
evilgoose is correct. don't make ur bed in the morning. keep it folded well back.
how about an early spring clean at the weekend? clean the room top to bottom, hoover, new duvet and bed sheets, insect repelent, matress protector etc. much cheaper than the £150 im sure.0 -
Are you sure they aren't pet fleas from the previous tenant's (Or your) pets?
Bed bugs live on the floor/under skirting during the day where they lay eggs and feed on flakes of flesh on the mattress during the night.
it's important to leave no dangly bits hanging from the bed that touch the floor once it's made.
Hoover the floor really well. Consider getting a carpet cleaner in to apply an anti bedbug treatment. The carpet cleaner should also be able to treat the mattress at the same time.
Alternatively one of those "steam genie" type things should kill 'em but it'll take a while.0 -

I'll think you'll find bed bugs have an appetite for human blood."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -
Thank you for all of your responses!
They definintely aren't fleas, I'm 100% they're bed bugs given the company who have been round twice have confirmed this, and i see them on a daily basis and when having to kill them, they are always full of blood. It's ghastly.
I'll definitely look into getting the carpet steamed and use all the tips mentioned. I want to clean the room tonight, but given the company are coming back on Friday, I want to leave things as they are so that i can prove that they're still there, and see if I'll get another fumigation from them.
Thanks again for all the information so far. Any other tips/advice are much appreciated. I can't wait for the day I can go home and not worry about them any moreDebt Free - Go Me0 -
Hi all,
Just wondered if it sounds like i have a bed bug problem? I've not been bitten at all yet when my boyfriend stays over (normally once a week) he always has a bite on his leg in the morning. It's only ever one bite and always on the same leg. The bites are quite angry looking and really itchy!
Are there any home remedies i could try before calling in pest control?
Thanks!0 -
Yeah I am still suffering with these bed bugs, last time I took heat treatment for my house so it was perfect for a year, again I facing bed bugs.0

Hello there,
I live in a rented property, no idea how I had a bed bug infestation last year. I had a professional in to fumigate, washed all my clothes and all of that.. they were gone. Now I am extremely scared as one year on I found two bites similar to bed bug bites on my leg!
My landlord contributed to the cost of a bed bug treatment, I don't think he would this time around. I have researched the use of diatomaceous earth. Do you have any experience of using it? I talked to my pest control guy again, he says it's very messy and not good to inhale, they use it under the floor boards if they suspect that the infestation can come from a neighbour. I read some reviews on amazon, people seem to spread it around their house... Not sure what to do, at the mo I couldn't afford a professional to come in to do a bed bug treatment, but I don't want to get silicosis either.. Any experience with DE??0 -
It's a really helpful list about what to do and the one shouldn't do: http://bed!!!!!!.com/2007/01/20/faq-think-you-have-bed-bugs-some-dos-and-donts/
