I am also ex directory and registered with tps but still get them and dependant on my mood my response will vary from polite to annoyed to plain rude
I had one yesterday and suffice to say I was not happy my some stranger addressing me by my first name I said do I know you and "david" (yer sure you are a david) says no
me - then why are you using my first name as if you do and did I ask you or your company to call me
him - says full name getting it wrong and says no
me - didn't your mother teach you it is rude to address someone you do not know by there first name unless they have invited you to do so?
him - is that using my full name and again wrong
me - as I have established that 1. you have no manners .2, I do not know you and 3 I have not asked you to call me I am going to ask you not to call this number again and hang up.I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.0 -
This happened to us and so I rang BT and gave them the phone numbers and they put me on another TPS thing (that you have to re register every 12 months) and I no longer get the calls! Our dream has come true...0

Only downside to this is that many people who are ex-directory have their number withheld, and these calls will be blocked. It can also block legitimate calls from other places.0 -

It might help to know - so you can tell friends - Anyone who has CLI withheld can release their number by prefixing the number they wish to dial with 1470, it will release the CLI for that call only.
Also people might like to know 1475 erases the last number stored in 1471, and of course (most people know that) prefixing a number with 141 will withhold your number.0
