Please Help - Urgently Need Advice!

in Credit cards
Hi - I have hit a brick wall and desperately need some advice. Hope not to be too long winded but will be as brief as i can be concerning my dilemma.
Problem 1 - In 2006 I applied online for a Barclaycard. Form came through the post asking for original docs to be sent to them to prove my identity etc. All seemed good and I did what they asked and sent off 3 original docs. 6 months later and despite virtually begging them to just return my docs (as by then i had assumed I was not going to get a card) I received absolutely nothing - no return of my docs, not even a letter from them acknowledging all the letters I had written. I then moved. The docs I sent them were not my current bank account as I am not totally stupid and only sent docs which proved who I was and my address but ones off their list. However, as I say they acknowledged nor returned anything to this very day.
Then in August 2007 I received two letters from a bailiff lot saying I owed on TWO barclaycards a sum totalling £3000 +. Obviously I was completely devastated as I have never ever even set foot in Barclays and my only link was as that above. I wrote to Barclaycard and rang the bailiff ouffs who were rude and said they had no details only that they were told to get money out of me. Barclaycard did NOTHING! I therefore eventually wrote to the banking ombudsman and they have been as useless - they just keep sending me letters saying how busy they are and here I am in April and still zappo. I sent them a statement of the situation and filled in their forms and still nothing.
Then the next shocker! Problem 2 - I had just returned from holiday (2 weeks ago) and opened a bank statement from the Halifax. This was an old account i just kept ticking over paying in a very small amount each month from my main current account - and noticed someone had taken £40 out. There was only peanuts in there anyway - so I rang them. It was taken out by another load of bailiff ouffs equally as rude and unhelpful and full of wind as it turns out they speak with fork tongues too (who we found out are actually in the same office as Halifax) and wait for it......they said i owed them £11,500 on a halifax credit card!! I am a secretary not a high flying whizz with megabucks!! I was totally devastated to say the least. I did have a Halifax credit card in 2004/2005 but it ran out and i never used it again and they have NEVER EVER sent me a new one and even if they had I think spending £11,500 credit might demand a bit of a higher salary than my pittance!
I was too upset to speak to anyone so my husband rang the bailiff lot and they said they had taken the £40 as payment off the debt!!! When the situation was explained to them they said they would refund it ! no way ... .still waiting. My husband called Halifax credit card people and they admitted it was a very old account but would not give any information to me or him as they said they had to dig out records!! We contacted the police and they said we had to give these companies time to sort it out but they were sympathetic. Well I have given everyone time and they have ALL ignored my letters demanding information and proof of who and when this mass of money was spent etc.
The ombudsman, Halifax and Barclaycard have gone silent and try as we might they do not acknowledge any calls or letters and I simply do not know where to turn for help. I can't afford a solicitor.
Can someone please help me. This whole situation is making me so ill as I cant sleep for worry etc. Thanks anyway.

I can't help you at all but I wish you all the best. Be +ve and you will get it sorted out. Maybe Citizens Advice might help or your local MP.0
