1st time CTC claim when on maternity leave

Firstly, apologies if this has already been covered but I've looked through the existing stickies/posts and couldn't see anything.
I am the main earner in our house and am currently on maternity leave with my first child.
While I don't think we would be entitled to anything for the 07-08 tax year, in 08-09 we will definitely be under the £65,000 income limit I've heard quoted.
What I'm trying to find out is:
1 - when can I claim (need the money now, but do I need to wait until the end of this tax year to claim)?
2 - how does it come - is it credited to your bank account like child benefit or is your tax code adjusted?
3 - i assume its based on our estimated household earnings, but i'm not sure how accurate my estimate will be (given my payslip is full of accronyms/adjustments etc) - what kind of proof do they need?
I'm sure I'll think of something else as soon as I post this, but if anyone could help me with these questions I'd be really grateful!

Claim now but systems are being upgraded so call on wednesday. Deduct £100 from your income for every week you have been receiving SMP and £100 for every week your partner if you have one got paternity pay.
Its paid to your bank either weekly or 4 weekly and you just need togive your gross p60 figures at the end of the relevent tax yearMF aim 10th December 2020 :j:eek:MFW 2012 no86 OP 0/2000
