Hot/Cold fill washers?

I've just bought a Bosch, cold fill washer, recommended because I have a combi boiler & it is more economic than hot and cold fill. My old washer is still working fine and I am giving it to daughter, who also has a combi bolier. can anyone tell me if it advisable to just connect the cold fill hose to this washer, or will it damage any working part?

I know what you mean about combi's and wasting water, the hot never gets to my machine before it stops filling. I have a Whirlpool AWE 613 -this has hot and cold fill, but if both are not connected it gets stuck on some cycles as it is demanding water from only the hot. So Siamesed the hot and cold pipes togeter with a "Y" connector and ran a single pipe to the cold fill. I use it overnight on economy 7 and according to my new Watt Meter thingie it is costing 3 pence per wash! The quicker you fall behind, the longer you have to catch up...0

Likewise, I have a combi boiler and a bosch washingmachine. I have just cold water running to the machine for the same reason. The hot water does not heat up in time before cutting off again. With economy 7 it is cost effective. I would give Bosch washing machines 10/10 as it hasn't woken anyone up yet on fast spin!0

If you mean will it damage the washing machine the answer is no.
I have always connected our machines to cold fill only, no matter where they have been sighted and allowed them to reach temperature using the built in heating element.
The reason is simplicity of installation and previous homes with combi's which as others have already mentioned have some issues with washing machine filling.0 -
Thanks everyone, think we'll try it with just cold fill and if it plays up, reconnect the hot hose. Not sure about siamesing the pipes together Mr P, I'll be sure to make a pigs ear of it. By the way, hope your name is not indicative of your medical condition, I feel sorry for you if it is.:smileyhea A SMILE COSTS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING0

ummm I have about an 8 year old creda. And this week I was with out hot water due to have a new condensing combi being fitted. We turned off the hot water fill as that is what the plumber said to do for our peace of mind.
So I used the economy button to heat the cold water. Anyway when I came to do the second load I discovered that the washing powder had not been taken. This was due to no hot water being used.
I think your daughter will need to test to see if works for her. As other wise her clothes are not going to be washed with powder.

Congratulations KatyKat - You are the first to get my user name, it isn't what I have but what I am called by my Ex LOL
As said earlier, if your machine calls for water from the hot water inlet then you need to get water to it somehow, my machine will sit forever waiting for hot water for its first rinse, and never finish a wash, so I got a Y connector from B and Q connected the hot and cold to it and ran another hose from the cold pipe to the "leg" of the Y. That being said you might not need to, no way to tell until you try it out I'm afraid. The quicker you fall behind, the longer you have to catch up...0 -
I feel safer with cold fill only anyway - less chance of very hot water being added directly onto delicate clothes as the temperature is balanced by the washer.I think....0

washing machines are going to be just cold fill soon anyway i work for a distribution company and most manufactures only do cold fill now more enviromently friendly. its like the black tv and videos they are all coming back instead of the silver so don't go changing just yet....0

Our current Bosch is a cold fill only. The previous Bosch was hot and cold, but even though I had both connected, I always kept the hot tap turned off. At the time our hot water came from a cylinder and I wanted to save the hot water. Never had any problems running it just on cold, though it might have lengthened the cycles a bit.
