www.auto-ec.com - Scam?

Hi,
I've responded to an advert on Gumtree.com for a pair of decks, as they were listed at a very cheap price. The seller wants to do the transaction through this site: www.auto-ec.com where it acts as a third party and holds my money until I recieve the goods and confirm I'm happy with them, then they transfer it to the seller.
Looking at the site it seems quite suspicous, as there is no contact phone number, only email adresses. Also it doesn't come up in google searches, I can't find it listed anywhere!
Can anyone offer any advice as to whether this is a scam? I dont want to throw £500 down the drain!
Thanks

Coming from Newcastle apparently.
How did you find that out about the website registration?? I knew it was too good a deal to be true! Thanks for your help.0 -
Yes, it's bound to be a scam - any escow site with a hypen it invariably turns out to be a scam. Suggest to the seller that you use www.escrow.com, this is a known bone fide escrow service. Are you commuicating with the seller via email?"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

Seeing as the seller has suggested a scam escrow site already. I wouldn't go near any deal with these people.
To find out details of any website (owner, date of registration etc) you can do a whois search.
For any .com .net etc, I use Better Whois. Enter the address in the box and click search.
For any UK registered site (.co.uk, .org.uk etc) I use the UK registration service for all these domains Nominet (the whois search is on the top right of the page). How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?
