First Anniversary Combo Breaker
My combined elec + gas bill went up from £35 to £39.50. I realise there are cost rises at the moment, however when I divided their estimate of our usage over the next nine and a half months by nine and a half, I got £25.

So I queried it and it turns out that we are £157 in credit with our gas. They've put us on a 'maintenance payment' for gas of £5 a month. Why have they done this instead of just giving us 'free' gas until the credit runs out, or a refund? I know I could ask them but I just wondered if anyone has a quick answer.

The answer is simple ......... because it's money in the bank for them.

How - do you mean as interest? Because (years) down the line, we'll still have paid the same as if they refunded us now.

Should I ask for the refund? It would be better on our mortgage than in their bank wouldn't it.
