Hidden charge at QuoteLine Direct

I just got some car insurance via QuoteLine Direct after using moneysupermarket.com. When I rang up to accept the quote I was told that there is a £15 "service charge" on top of the quoted premium. I said that wasn't made clear on the website and asked if it could be removed. They said it was a computer error which they were trying to rectify as soon as possible, and they would have to charge the fee. I declined. I rang back a few minutes later and spoke to a different adviser. I again asked for the fee to be removed, and that time I was successful.

I personally think some of the more, shall we say shady companies, are doing this deliberately to drum up business.

I've noticed the same thing increasingly on many comparison sites (for all sorts of things) - they advertise a low price to appear higher up in the listings, yet click through and actually try and buy at that price (or phone them) and there is "administration fees" or the link takes you to the product but at a much higer price.
