Freebie DVD's won't play in my DVD player!

Those free DVD's that you sometimes get with the week-end papers just won't play in my DVD player, (Phillips DVD625), though they play just fine on the computer. Would anyone have any ideas as to why that might be?

Well, it could be a region issue... but assuming you have a UK DVD player and a UK Newspaper, I don't see why there would be a problem.

Free DVDs are (not unexpectedly) poor quality and there are often problems reading them, but you'd expect the problems to occur in whatever hardware you use. Maybe your computer is just able to read the lower quality discs while your DVD player isn't.

Or, it could be that your DVD player needs cleaning. You can get a DVD lens cleaning kit, but if it's a dirty lens you usually get problems on all your DVDs, skipping, etc. Don't see why it'd just not work with the free ones.

Well, those are some possibilities, but I don't really know what's causing the problem, I've not heard of it before

My father bought a dvd player and had the same problem. It is due to regions and the player usually doesn't like playing these types of dvd's. Unavoidable I'm afraid!
