Numbers in Googlemail signatures

Now I have a weird one here ...

We use googlemail at work. In my work email signature, I am obliged to include our company and charity registration numbers, and I also include my telephone and fax numbers.

So, I set my signature up, showing all that information, and it's all hunky dory for a while.

And then all the numbers disappear.

It should look like this:

Direct line: 0111 111 1111.
Office: 0111 111 1112.
Fax: 0111 111 1113.
Registered office: blah de blah
Registered in England
A company limited by guarantee, Reg No '1234567'
Charity No '1234567'

But what I actully see is this:

Direct line: .
Office: .
Fax: .
Registered office: blah de blah
Registered in England
A company limited by guarantee, Reg No ''
Charity No ''

Now, you would think that I could just put the numbers back in, but unless I change something else, the signature box doesn't recognise that there's anything to change!

Those quote marks are my attempt to keep the numbers visible, but they won't stay.

Here it gets more bizarre ...

When I log into someone else's computer and my googlemail, the numbers in my signature are visible.

BUT they're not visible in any emails sent from my machine.

I've probably not explained that very well, but I'm doing my best. I've posted on the googlemail help forums but didn't get any help.

BTW, it's only the sequences of numbers which don't show up: the numbers in our address and postcode seem stable.

This has been going on for months. And I'm flummoxed - anyone got any bright ideas I can try? Thanks if you have ...

what email client are you using - Outlook or just the web interface?

The user account settings might have become corrupted somewhere along the line. You could try 'deleting' your account and setting it up again.

Can you use an image in your signature?

If so make an image of the details and use that.

It would also help in stopping spam bots picking up the text.

I have just tried plain text and it seems OK here.

Sent by Gmail and received by outlook express.

Just the web interface. Usually in Mozilla Firefox. Will have to think about 'deleting' the account - not sure I know how to do that.

Nope, I don't think Google lets you do that. It would let me add a picture of myself, so presumably I could put what I want into that, BUT it has to be square and I don't think I could fit it readably into that, plus presumably some people switch that kind of thing off, and I have to show it legally.

And thanks for your efforts. Perhaps the thing I didn't make clear is that I can sometimes get my signature showing 'right', but then the numbers vanish again. And I can't work out what it is that 'changes' it.

Now this is interesting! I've just sent one email using Mozilla, and my direct line is showing but nothing else! Then I logged in using IE, and ALL the numbers are showing ... And I've changed NOTHING!

    Another thought:

Use default text encoding for outgoing messages

Use Unicode (UTF-8) encoding for outgoing messages

Does anyone think it would help to go from default to Unicode? That's a level of geek speak above my comprehension! :rotfl:

I think that would be a very good idea! I think it might be the solution you're after

I tried both ways and they both worked.

How are you putting the text in?

    Are you copying pasting?

    Or just typing it.

Thinking it could be picking up some formating from what ever you may be copying it from.

I also tried a few different ways and failed.

go through all your settings in Gmail and try and reset them to factory defaults then delete your signature and log out.

Log back in and re write the signature (don't just cut and paste from somewhere - actually write it out again yourself) save it and log out

Then log back in and see if it still is messed up.

If it is, it might be worth contacting Gmail (I think they're quite good at responding) and see if they can do anything their end or if they can suggest a better fix.
