Inherited Shares question

Hiya
Just a quickie question (might be a very silly one I'm afraid) - Firstly please excuse my total ignorance.:o
My oh has inherited a number of shares from a relative & we don't know anything about shares - is the value quoted in papers etc in pence eg one of the values is 1215 does that mean they are worth that in pence?
See told you it was a silly question
Thanx in Advance
J

Yes thats how much they were worth (in pence) when the person bought them, if you google "yahoo finance uk shares COMPANYNAME", it should give a nice link to yahoo finance website which will give todays price :)

I think the OP is asking about the prices shown in newspapers, i.e. the current price

    Hiya Friendly

Just multiply the number of shares by the price £12.15 to get the value of the holding on the previous stock exchange working day. It is a mid-price since you could sell but it will be a bit lower than £12.15. Buying - you pay a bit more.

When you sell you will pay the dealer a charge varies from a few pounds on-line to say £30 a deal but is related to the total proceeds on the dealer's scale. When you buy you will find a stamp duty levy as well say, 0.5% as the charges.

If the company pays dividends you will be getting cheques in due course. Does the Company Registrar know of you new ownership, name and address etc? Some companies have DRIP - shares instead of dividends - the deceased may have had DRIP. Hopefully it will all come out in the wash for you. (the pun was not intended!!:j )

    Good luck
