Halifax, problems

A while ago I cancelled my card as I lost it and 6 months later I started having debit transactions go through that I hadnt done. When I rang them I was advised the transactions were on my old card which was cancelled 6 months ago

The fraud department okayed the payment and refused to help me recover my money. I contacted the company who the payment went to and the payment card details they had werent even in my name and the Halifax fraud department still okayed the transaction

Ive also had a cancelled chq go through my account, a year after cancelling the cheque as being lost

My husband lost his card yesterday and theyve charged him £5 for a new card. They didnt advise of this when he reported his card lost and we had no warning at all its just been taken out of my account. Can they do this?

Im really annoyed with them as a hole. Ive managed to get my money back for the debit transactions from the company directly but the cancelled cheque and the £5 charge for a new card is really annoying

 rant over

Halifax have screwed up, big time.

First of all, I would complain to Halifax. If the card was cancelled, they should not have authorised transactions on it, and if your cheque was stopped then they should not have honoured it. That they did so even though the card details provided were totally incorrect is disgraceful. Go through their formal complaints procedures and, if you have no joy, go to the Financial Ombudsman Service.

Then, I would find a new bank. I have never, ever been charged by a bank for the replacement of a card, and if Halifax have started doing that they must be worse than I already thought! Seriously, go to one of the others; HSBC are fantastic in my book, or A&L if you don't mind putting up with some crap customer service to get a few percent interest.

    Good luck!

I used to be with HSBC and I did find them really good until all my local branches started doing half days and neither myslef or dh could get there to bank cheques etc. I rang and said I wanted to make a complaint and their complaints team is going to call me back in the next 4 working days. So will see how I get on. Ive all my credit cards, savings account, daughters saving and currents accounts with them so theyll be loosing a lot of business

Your husband was charged £5 because he has had more than 5 replacement cards issued in the last year. Tell him to be a bit more careful ;)

To be honest I wouldn't allow someone who has lost 5 or more cards in a 12 month period to have a card at all!
