Credit card overpayment

This is my first post - I am amazed by the knowledge on here, so I hope someone can help.

I have a Skycard and have had numerous problems with it lately, one of which was hubby mistakenly drawing cash on it thining it was his debit card - he won't do it again! This has created a continuous £1 interest charge each month even though we have paid our statement in full each month, because we have continued using it so there has always been a debit balance. Having established eventually that the balance needs to go to zero to get shot of the interest charge for good, we switched to another card and haven't used it since. However another payment has gone through (a standing order we forgot about and have now changed) by a stroke of amazing bad luck on the same day that the payment went in.

Anyway, the problem is, we're away next month when the next statement will be generated and not back before the payment will be due, so we want to clear it now, then cancel it and good riddance (there have been MANY other hassles with this card so we really want done with it.)

The problem is that the £1 interest won't be added till the end of the month, so my question is, if I pay the amount of the one remaining transaction plus a £1 now (can do this online) will the fact that I've made an overpayment automatically clear the account when the interest charge is added?

I SO hope so but am not confident in their capacity to handle even something so simple. Has anyone any thoughts?

Yep :j They can't charge you anything after you've cleared your balance.

Could you not simply set up a direct debit to pay the full balance on the card?

Maybe. You'd be best off ringing them up and asking for the precise amount needed to clear the card.

In fact, ring them up today, explain you want to close the card, and you wish to clear the balance today. They should be able to take payment from your bank card.

Look on the back of your credit card for the +44 phone number (there should be one) or use saynoto0870 to find the number.
